We sat down with aryafrei to talk about her journey — from her first days as a performer to becoming one of the most recognized trans models in America.

How It All Started

For better or worse my journey into the cam world is very much tied to my transition. After having been on HRT for several months and after having my first surgery, I went for a consultation for breast implants.

Despite working two jobs, I was not approved for financing. The surgeon's assistant suggested a popular fan site or a sugar daddy. Well, I did not do those things but I had a friend that did cam modeling for extra money so I decided to try it too.  After losing my health insurance and draining my savings on hair removal, I broke down, took two weeks off work, devoted them to camming — and it saved me.

The next month I reinvested in my setup and appearance, and soon I was earning more from camming than from either of my jobs. Two months later, I was able to pay my rent, bills and expensive health insurance with money from camming. I quit one of my jobs and reduced my hours at the other. 

Five months later, I got my breast implants and my success as a cam model continued to grow into a career. Now I’m getting nominated for awards and setting aside money for investments and retirement, something I never thought would be possible for me. 

Even though my path into camming is linked to my transition, I wish it weren’t — I do it because I love it, and it’s the first thing that’s made me feel truly successful.

Overcoming Challenges as a Performer

I don’t think the challenges I’ve faced are unique to being a trans performer — every performer deals with self-doubt, comparison, trolls, and scammers; with time, you learn to spot scams, ignore trolls, and manage the self-doubt that creeps in during slow periods.

When slow days start piling up, it’s hard to stay motivated — but I remind myself that top models keep showing up, and that’s why they’re on top. I have to be online when that one viewer is ready to spend — if I’m not there, they’ll give it to someone else.  

Comparison is always a challenge for any model — I find myself measuring against both other trans models and cis women. I used to assume that cis girls have it easier and that I have to work harder to be on their level.  I don’t believe that anymore — success comes down to a mix of hard work and luck, no matter who you are.

Are They Nice to You? Yes, They Really Are

Generally the viewers that come into my room are there because they love trans women. Many of them dated or wanted to meet trans women, and for some, my room is the first place where they feel comfortable exploring that. 

Most of my viewers see themselves as straight, and I tell them that’s fine — they don’t need to label it, just enjoy the connection.My biggest supporter had never thought about trans women before seeing my photo — he decided to check out my room, and I ended up changing his whole world.

Of course, there are viewers who fetishize me or keep me as their secret, but that’s just part of the game for any model. Still, all the love and positivity I get online sometimes make me forget that the real world isn’t always like that — though I hope one day it will be.

What I’d really like to change is one common expectation — not all of us fit the same fantasy. We don’t all have huge, hard dicks and want to fuck you. I don’t mind playing along sometimes, but I’ve built my success on being the opposite of that.

Goals and Dreams for the Future

Professionally, I want to create and sell more content — I mostly rely on going live, but I know my viewers would love to see more from me.

I’d love to create more voice-based content and collaborate with others — it’s tricky because of where I live, but it’s still one of my goals.

Personally, I want to keep growing and building on everything camming has given me. Before this career, I’d save up and then spend it all on some adventure, starting from scratch again. Now my mindset has changed, and I want to keep living in this abundance.
