Happy Pride! An Unprecedented Look at the LGBTQ+ Cam Audience
A few weeks ago, we conducted a survey of our US-based Stripchat members to help get to know our LGBTQ+ audience, and better understand what role cams play in their offline lives. It was exciting to see that more than a half of our LGBTQ+ users were considering becoming a cam model. We dove specifically into questions about sexuality, gender identity, relationship status, politics and “outness” in one’s community — and, boy, did we get interesting answers.
Below, some of the most interesting facts we got from our 2021 Pride Study!
Cam users are proud of their sexuality
Most LGBTQ+ cam users (57%) said they never (or rarely) felt shame about their sexual desires. That’s pretty much the same percentage we got from heterosexual users. (Bisexuals felt the least amount of shame of anyone. Asexual respondents, endured the most conflict.)
We don’t believe that any of our visitors should feel shame about their sexual desires, and we hope that Stripchat gives people a way of exploring desires safely and comfortably!
Many cam users are not out in their communities
The majority of LGBTQ+ cam users are not yet out to their family and friends. 46% of our respondents said they were out to all of their friends, and 38% were out to all of their family, but kept their sexuality hidden, or were out to just a few select people.
There are many reasons that people enjoy cams, but for a large number of LGTBQ+ users, cams are an important connection to a larger LGTBQ+ community!
Cam users have strong sexual appetites offline and on
About 15% of our LGBTQ+ members have sex daily with a partner, in addition to their time on Stripchat. Almost 40% are getting laid at least once a week.
But more than a third — 34% — don’t currently have access to a real-life partner, or aren’t out about their sexuality. And 60% have never had serious same-sex relationship. For them, LGBTQ+ cams are a critical lifeline to their sexual expression.
A little bit of politics
Each serious survey should contain a question or two about politics, so we've also added one. It showed us that most of our LGBTQ+ users are into being Conservative or Liberal if they are not staying away from politics.
The site created for your pleasure
It was exciting to see that around 40% of our LGBTQ+ users spend 3+ hours weekly interacting with their favorite performers and communities on Stripchat.
Everyone Loves Little Nas X
We asked our members which LGTBQ+ celebrity they’d most like to go private with. Out of nearly 30 celebrities, Lil Nas X was the clear winner, taking home almost ⅕ of the total vote. Men, women, trans — everyone loves Montero.
So this Pride, we celebrate each of our LGBTQ+ community, and hope Stripchat helps people connect to their communities and desires. And we take this week to thank our thousands of amazing LGBTQ+ models. Sex workers were on the frontlines of Stonewall, and have been on the frontlines of the fight for sexual rights. The work you do in helping people understand and connect with their desire is vital and meaningful, and we wish all of you a Happy Pride!
