What is voyeurism? Voyeur fetish explained
You could probably be trying a different fetish in the bedroom every day for a whole year without ever repeating – that’s how many fetishes there are. One of them is voyeurism, which is increasingly becoming more popular by the day, and even though you’ve probably heard of it, do you really know what it is about and what it entails?
What is a voyeur?
Voyeurism is the act of experiencing sexual gratification from observing other people in sexual acts while they are naked. The fetish may also include hearing others perform sexual actions or even hearing about other people's sexual experiences.
Therefore, a voyeur is a person who gets pleasure from watching others partake in sexual activities. And before you think that that’s creepy or weird, think about porn; one could argue that the kick people get out of watching porn is somehow voyeuristic. After all, don’t most people masturbate watching other people have sex on a screen? There’s that.
Good voyeurism vs. bad voyeurism
Voyeurism is a both-ways fetish: it can be done in a playful and consensual way, or in a harmful and non-consenting manner. An example of the latter, would be doing something behind your partner’s back. What’s more, there’s a voyeuristic disorder that consists of as an intense and persistent desire to spy on unsuspecting people who are nude or having sex.
However, if you have communicated with your partner beforehand and you both consensually agree, then you can experience voyeurism in a good and healthy way. But this takes us to the next question…
How can you incorporate voyeurism into the bedroom?
Now we got to the fun part, and the truth is, there are many different ways you can spice up your sex life with voyeurism. Here are some examples:
- Watch your partner take a shower or a bath. You can be in the bathroom with them or get into the real voyeuristic mood and watch them from the crack of the door.
- Watch your partner masturbate. You can simply encourage them to lie on the bed and do their own thing as if you were not there while you actually take a peek. You can even hide in the closet and watch through an opening in the door.
- If you’re in an open relationship, bring another person into the equation and watch them have sex with your partner.
Remember that whatever you do, consent should always be involved. It’s the key factor here.
